It's Been a Minute

When I first sat down to create this space, I didn’t think things would move this fast or go this well. I have no complaints, but it derailed my best-made plan for writing regularly, so apologies, it’s been a minute.

But, in that minute, a group of amazing people…

…each bringing opportunity has surrounded me, and all this love has helped bring the next part of this adventure forward a few months. More on that in an upcoming piece.

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can about solutions to homelessness, and I’m uplifted by the incredible innovations and acts of love going on all over the US. When, in 2018, we started whispering to each other that we could see a path to ending this crisis, I never imagined I would have the chance to join a growing chorus of like-minded people. We’re no longer afraid to raise our heads for fear of making targets of ourselves; the opportunity is too great, the love too real, and the actions too obvious to settle for anything less than the end of homelessness.

And the people I’m talking about are experts on par with any academic or bureaucrat because they’re living in the solution every day.

I know hundreds of people who’ve recovered from homelessness and the shame it carries with it—within my circle of friends working on the streets, we know thousands.

It’s time we told their stories and learned from their experiences.

Honoring what they’ve endured while we’ve struggled with, and felt helpless to end, the enormity of their pain.

I’m reading everything I can find, listening, watching, and sharing with those around me. I’m trying to find the best people and programs in and outside my circle. What I see gives me so much joy and so much hope. I know this won’t be easy—huge accomplishments never are—but we can do this, and we all agree.

We can end homelessness together, now and for good.

Thanks for being patient as I get my footing. More soon.

Paul
